I wonder if anyone could give me a few tips here on how to proceed.

My tax return is really simple, I almost qualify for non-submission of Tax Return except for some minor factors, so I really do not need someone to complete my tax return for me.

So, for my 2023 tax return, SARS did not not populate my return with my financial information. A bit irritating, but I then proceeded to type in all the information manually, and submitted the form on 3 October 2023, so a bit early.

SARS then "Unsubmitted" my form, in that it now still shows as not submitted. Weird, but true.

Since then I have phoned them, and sent e-mails, etc, etc for a whole year long. That 2023 return still shows up as not submitted, and will not submit again. No messages.

I have now started working on my 2024 return, still not populated, and I have started to enter the information manually.

But I decided that I had better go to see them, but I see that I am unable to make a physical appointment (at all). Best that I could do was to schedule a discussion, but that is only on 16 October, a bit late in the day.

Numerous past e-mails and phone calls to them have achieved nothing.

I suspect that they have classified me as deceased, one of the consultants muttered something along those lines. So I sent them an image of me holding my ID card, that is supposed to be what you do to resolve that. But nothing.

At this point I just have no idea as to what to do. I suspect that they owe me a few thousand rand, but their system will not do the calculations, so I don't know. That does not actually bother me, I just need to get this sorted.

If SARS channels cannot resolve it, use the ombudsman.

I'm a provisional taxpayer, so I have to submit 3 times per year.
I hate dealing with any govt. person, so I got myself a lady that sorts SARS for me, Costs me R900 per year, which I gladly pay

Thanks, that may be the only way to resolve this.

Yes, I am tempted to do this, but it seems like such a waste because my tax is really simple, and I am not provisional.

Finding the right person to assist me is also a mission.

Get a Tax Consultant, pay their fee. You may not see it, but you already fell in the hole. SARS is going to love you, soon, without vaseline.

You are probably right.

Just a pity that SARS is just as incompetent as the rest of the SOE's in SA.

Can anyone recommend a good Tax Consultant in Joburg. Maybe DM me ?

Maybe DM @Side Effect? He recently assisted me in resolving a problem I had with my IRP5. I believe he is working in the tax consultancy sector.

Do you mind sharing your tax practitioners details or point me in the direction of a good (legit) person?
SARS has now registered me as a provisional taxpayer for the 2024 season, and I was hit with a penalty (school fees).
I submitted via TaxTim but didn't claim for home office expenses etc as it seemed too complicated.

I now need someone for 2025 tax season as I understand that i am already late for the august submission?

no problem - I'll send you a PM

go use taxtim, i am a provisional tax payer as well. I have nothing fancy in my own returns and know what do to. So they guide you through what you need to do plus if something goes wrong they try resolve it with sars without charging you extra. You need to have some general ability to understand your finances and tax posistion but it is very basic to get your returns done every year. If your clueless about your situation or have fallen into trying to do fancy things with your tax then go get an accountant.

Been there my self, eventually I went to a tax practitioner, way less stressful.

You must really want to submit a tax return?

They don't want it! Let it be.

That is correct - I run my own consultancy. Ty for the recommendation. :)

DM sent if you didn't come right yet.

they're all useless, I had a tax consultant person for years... one would think all was ok until one day I got an SMS at 4am saying you owe SARS R7,500 for non submission?! flat panic I get hold of the consultant and seems like they didn't submit my one return from years ago, I paid them for all this and now I get penalised and have to pay! And my submission is really effing easy as I am retired, zero income. I then had a friend login to my SARS eFiling and it was in red saying you're no good buddy! So she said you need to pay these fines 🤕 so I had to pay those!

She sorted everything out in like 15 min click click click. If I login to my profile even today my status is all in green and says I'm ok. But if you look at past returns one or two STILL SAYS missing or pay R500. It makes no logical sense even though on there everything is sent and is 100%

They are not all useless, the one I use keeps me in the loop every step of the way, they always ask for approval prior to submitting and then provide me with the proof after submission and finally the amount owing or due to be paid.

Dear @Jola

The MyBB community is glad to see you have moved on from having issues with Capitec and MTN to now also having issues with SARS.

This is what we call progress.

I guess the service providers you mentioned do have a reputation for poor communication and service.

However, the service I get from SARS is stellar.

That being said, I have much more respect for someone that wants to solve their problem than someone that just leaves it to fester.

I've had too many taxpayers come to me with things they have left for YEARS and the fee for the work itself is usually large.
