So I just had a look at my IRP5 that was issued for last year and I don't see the SDL and UIF listed on it like it was previously.

Have they removed this or was my previous employer being a bit daft when they did the IRP5's?

Same here and I called today.. twice.

Attempt #1 was in the morning and the gentleman at the call centre took the better half of a minute repeatedly asking me for my name and surname. I thought that keying my ID number during the call prompts would improve speed, but nay. Anyway, what I finally got out was that 'yes, those fields are missing' and that 'no, those values aren't filled in any more' (even though they existed in the past). Too bad that when I inquired further, he politely said bye and hung up.

Unsatisfied with the earlier reply, I went for attempt #2 was in the afternoon. This time the lady insisted that my employer had filed the IRP5 incorrectly (even though I had it in front of me) and that either my employer needed to file it again or that I would have to had to refresh the IRP5 data (even though I have done so repeatedly).

I am unhappy with these replies since they don't seem to be backed by any facts. I am not sure if the call centre people weren't trained or did not understand my question (even though the voice prompt insisted queries would ONLY be handled in English). All I wanted was a factual answer to my question: "Why are both fields, Employee and Employer UIF Contribution (4141) and Employer SDL Contribution (4142), missing from my ITR12 even though they appear on the IRP5 given to me, and have in the past?"

Anyone else had better success?

EDIT: thanks to @grim I confidently filed my ITR12 weeks ago without any issues

fill the fields in yourself on the return. you have the details in front of you. that simple.

Except that the built-in validations prevent that.. Not as simple.

Managed to speak to one that knows what is going on, the fields don't show on the ITR12 forms any more as of this year but they have to be on the IRP5 that was submitted as UIF and SDL are required to be paid be the employer.

My IRP5 data is not reflecting either despite some of my colleagues having their info.

When you spoke to the person who informed you that the UIF and SDL are not required in the return but should be reflected in the IRP5, did they mention you could manually enter the IRP5 data and submit your return?

The reason I ask is that I can enter certain IRP5 information (codes 4101 and 4102). If I enter a value for 'Gross Non-Retirement Funding Income' (code 3698) under 'Income Received continued...', then the 'Tax Withheld' section becomes editable.
The only problem is that the 'Control Total' value is different from that reflected on the IRP5.

I had the exact same issue where the amounts for codes 4141 4142 appeared on my IRP5, but not on my ITR12. I just went ahead with the filing, which I might dispute at a later stage (after I see what my refund is), since AFAIK it will affect the amount SARS pays me back.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but taxes refundable/due for the most of us out there are (roughly) calculated the difference between:

Normal tax due (calculated from taxable income and rebates subtracted from that)
and
Taxes already paid (which is the sum of SITE, PAYE, UIF and SDL: 4101+4102+4115+4141+4142)

If anyone can shed any light on this, please let us know. UIF and SDL add up to a couple of pennies that most of us would like to [-]blow during a drunken weekend[/-] put in a retirement fund.

tax is only SITE and PAYE not UIF or SDL, you won't get any of this back only the tax paid.
