SA's first co.za domain names

Today there are over 926,000 domains, amounting to over 95% of the total registrations in the .za top level domain.

The exact number of .co.za domains as of today: 937 440
 
How many of those are squatters?

I know this is not part of a Domain Dispute Discussion, but I am desperate.
I own the domain www.simplesmartinsurance.co.za - Not parked, the function is to generate leads online to sell to Insurance Companies.
Dial Direct has submitted a complaint claiming that they own the rights to "SIMPLE SMART INSURANCE".
I thought that they had no case due to "SIMPLE SMART INSURANCE" being a non distinctive phrase in the common English language.
Well, the adjudicator ruled in their favour and I have been ordered to transfer the domain.

Surely this cannot be correct?

** Additional info - Dial Direct has registered a trademark "DIAL DIRECT SIMPLE SMART INSURANCE".
The opinion from a respected law firm was that they were not allowed to register Simple Smart Insurance on its own and thus had to add Dial Direct.

Since this registration, Dial Direct has not shown interest to register the domain, now they state that I am benefiting from the payoff line.

My intention was not to sell this domain to anybody, but now after a lot of legal bills that ended up in defending my self, I have to give up the domain for nothing?

You've been sitting on that domain for a while now. I can see why people are raising eyebrows over this.

The law firm is likely correct. Simple smart insurance is not a descriptive enough term to register legally. But you'll have to launch an appeal as you didn't bring this up during the initial adjudication.
 
Based on new information that has come to light, it seems that one of the very first co.za domain names registered (if not the first) is actually 'csir.co.za'. This conclusion is based on feedback from the original .za administrator, Mike Lawrie. Although we cannot pinpoint the exact creation date, it appears that 'csir.co.za' existed prior to the creation of a separate co.za zone file (i.e. it was initially part of the parent .za zone file). If you review the zone record linked in the article, you will notice no create event exists for 'csir.co.za', but there is an update note for "Changed CSIR's nameservers" on 14 July 1992. According to Mike, he believes the name was registered in late 1991 as it was already referred to in correspondence at that time.
