SA's labour stats: 2014 Q4

That 15-24 group number is flipping scary.
9 million people not employed - and you can't tell me they're at school/university.

Actual unemployment is probably a bit lower if you take into account the informal sectors (hawkers etc).

Hi, I fall in that age group and I am currently in University :P

Yes, but how many are there like you?

Not a lot.
I was looking to get a summer job, there is really not much there. The economy is not doing too well, causing inexperienced workers not to be hired due to experienced workers taking up the positions due to them being retrenched earlier.

My guess in students 19+ just counting off the top of my head in Cape Town, UCT + CPUT + UWC + Stellenbosh would be around the 100k mark.
They should separate the 19-24 group.

Do they still not count people that has lost hope and are not looking?

Ok. That does make it seems better than it really is.

Official unemployment is what, 25% or so? That's not counting the not-lookings.

If you look at the first table, it shows you REAL unemployment of 57%
