If the government can't protect its own assets, what chance do ordinary people stand against the crime tsunami?

Almost half a billion rands of taxpayers' money was forked out in 2007 to private security firms to protect police stations, government departments and courts.

This startling figure is contained in the response to a series of parliamentary questions by the Democratic Alliance, which shows that the combined total expenditure by 18 national departments for outsourced security was R831,2-million between 2005 and 2007.

A closer analysis of the figures shows that the cost of private security protection in 2007 alone totalled R431,2-million.

Ironically, most of the money has gone to protecting departments involved in the fight against crime and involved in the processing and holding of prisoners.

Ironic is it not:rolleyes:

Naidoo said they did want to compromise key points, so they needed highly trained officers who had been through more training than security guards to guard certain places and buildings.
Freudian slip?

It's ironic but terribly old. My local Table View police station here, had Chubb Monitoring
since the mid 90s. :)

It's terrible that so much governmental incompetence and contempt can exist and sadly all of this poor performance, ineptitude and incompetence is being rewarded with fat salaries.
