SA's solar warning

Wow this article said a whole lot of nothing useful....

Our company has already moved to Solar... it only covers about 60% at the moment... but the cost savings are already huge.
(We're saving about R15K a month on our previous energy bill)

For most countries with half decent sunlight and wind. Following the most economic approach possible:
  • Solar and wind alone - Get ~50% coverage of your requirements
  • Add onsite storage - more
  • Network between installations - Get ~75% or so coverage.
  • Add grid scale storage - more
  • Network across time zones and borders - Even more.
Individual sites may potentially be able to go off-grid, but predicated by their requirements compared to their roof/land space available for such purposes. It may be optimal for some sites to go off-grid. Or to make a wheeling deal. There are many factors. It's not one-size-fits-all.

Overall a level of coordination will always lead to more economically optimal outcomes. That's a given. And really a succinct summary of everything this article is waffling so hard about. It reads more like some insurance/investment advisor paid content warra. I'm guessing originally from somebody/company that wishes to provide relevant consultation services.

Would say what a load of rubbish, saving around R12k on our power bill. Even with replacing the batteries in mind and panels those are so cheap now it’s only just over a year old

Typical marketing talk but they say nothing. This lot wants to be a energy supplier where they buy energy from a number green energy sources and maybe even from Eskom and then want to sell it on. They are like energy traders so of course they would say solar could be a bad investment.

SA's solar warning
Discovery Green has warned South Africans against overinvesting in solar, saying that doing so could increase their total energy costs by more than 50% in the long run. [Daily Investor]
O rubbish man. Discovery probably is afraid to insure those panels. Your calculations are inflated to suite your bad argument. Rather issue a warning against the crooked liars at ESKOM. Because of the elections they temporarily fixed the supply. But now want to punish people who installed solar by charging ridiculously high costs just to be connected. Another form of theft. They remind one of the way the ANC government has been doing business. And Discovery seems to be in bed with them.

How much did you spend to save R15k a month.

if you go and look at their web site you can see they are some sort of electricity trader. It appears they buy a mix of green energy and resell that energy. Bottom line they want to discourage business investing in solar so they can supply their blended mix of energy. Making money out of nothing
