SA's world profit beaters

Interesting indeed. Telkom knows full well that it would not be able to make the astronomical profits it is making currently in a competative environment.

Yeah, How much of that is out of pocket of the SA citizens, and how much is moved out of SA, no benefit to us. Interesting that most of them (not banking) is monopoly's in their own right, ie NO direct competition.

Telkom has often been criticised for making “excessive profit”, the statement said. “Net profit of R6,8-billion in the context of a total asset base of R57,6-billion and equity of R26,9-billion is reasonable.”

It would be balanced if the R57 billion asset base was paid for by the company. Unfortunately, Telkom simply "inherited" 57 billion rands worth of assets, funded by the taxpayers of South Africa.

Telkom business model:
1. Inherit communications monopoly from government.
2. Get "privatised" by government.
3. List on JSE.
4. Suck at customer service and pricing.
5. ....
6. ....
7. Profit.

Welcome to corporate SA... please leave your wallet on the way out.

We dont need 'Fortune 500' or the like to tell us that we are being exploited, raped, ripped off, etc although it helps to expose the rot. A blind man can see that.
Sadly our government is not just blind, cause that would be ok, they are also dumb and greedy, and up till only very recently mute on the topic.

The big problem here is cartels. Company A owns B who owns C who is owned by Imperial and Imperial say companies A , B and C must by supplies of company H where Imperial own a 28% stake.
