Sata dvd problem(Solved)

Im trying to install a lite on sata dvd writer and it just does not want to work.Im running xp pro and an amd athlone cpu on a gigabyte k8vm800m board.i plug in the drive and turned on the pc but it does not pick up the drive do i need to download drivers for it?

Does the bios detect it? Windows should install the drivers automatically

nope the bios only shows my ide drive and i have on chip sata enabled if that helps

2) "The Gigabyte motherboard I have has two Sata controllers and both have IDE settings. You actually have to disable Sata to use IDE settings in the BIOS which is the default in the enabled mode."

@vatso i have no problem with ide its only sata that is giving me a problem

Ok well i got the drive to work finally.I installed driver backup pro on another machine and choose to backup the sata host controller and scsi host interface controller drivers (both drivers are needed) then i installed those drivers on the amd machine restarted the pc and it was working.
