Hi,
i have looked all over the place for a power supply for my external but i have given up so what i am planning to do is get a new casing that will come with a power supply. the hdd in my current hard drive is a Sata 500 gb and i was looking at what i should get. can anyone recommend anything ?
it is a 3.5'' hdd.

i saw this on Sybaritic

looks pretty decent.... just dont know how big it is. any tips or suggestions will be helpful .thanks guys ;)

I have 2 of these and 1 Freecom dock.

I love the Vantec "toaster" - best thing since sliced bread!!!!!

Dock or casing?

For casing, the Vantec Nexstar CX and Cooler Master Xport 351 are nice, and cheap.

How big is the toaster ? i mean is it bulky...not easy to lug around

Remember that you will carry the toaster and hdd separately. The toaster is a cube with dimensions: 136x83x87 mm (not big). I would not recommend that buy a dock if you want to use it as a portable.

You linked to a hot-swappable (inject and eject HDDs while PC is on) HDD dock. A dock or an external casing would both be fine for your HDD, depends what your needs are (for portability a external casing is better).

ok thanks ..i will go for the toaster dock to leave at home and buy a new external later in the year.any decent basic external casing i should look at it? can you provide a link or website if possible.

thanks again for all the help

Whatever you get, stay away from the Manhattan brand. They overheat horribly. Almost lost my 1.5TB due this. You could probably fry an egg on one.

Have a look at the Icy Dock range. This one has an eSATA interface and allows easy changing of HDDs. I'm considering it myself, because I have a numer of spare drives.
