SATA is the way to go, definitely!
SATA is the newer interface, it is somewhat faster, cables are soooo much better, thin and much more manageable!
Also, unlike IDE, SATA doesn't have the master/slave concept and jumper settings, making installation and swapping drives a breeze.
Most new mobos have 1 IDE connector (supports 2 drives - master and slave) and 4-6 SATA connectors. You can use both at the same time, that's fine. I would not advice buying new IDE drives, if you want to buy a new drive, SATA is the way to go!
