Hi guys,
i'm trying to install the hitachi drive i bought from esquire yesterday in my friends computers. make a long story short, its not picking up.

its an asus a8v deluxe, pretty old but still has sata slots on the board.
right, it doesnt get picked up in the bios and it doesnt get picked up in the computer management.
i've searched google and the only way they say is to repair windows, press f6, before that make a floppy disk with the sata drivers.

now, who has a floppy drive ? well this pc unfortunately doesnt so does anyone know what to do ??? please!!!!

What SP is xp running?

You may need to slip stream the drivers into the xp disk possibly. What is the hdd mode set to in the bios?

either 2 or 3, i am not totally sure

there are 3 ide drives which are picked up in the bios. The sata drive is not picked up in the bios.. sata raid enabled is all it says about sata drives...

If it's not picked up in the BIOS it's not going to be picked up by Windows. As cyberbob said, try setting the SATA drives to IDE if they're on RAID/AHCI or vice versa.

you have to disable the raid functionality in the bios. you are only using 1 hard drive.

What is the size of the new hard drive you want to install?

Perhaps, the firmware of the SATA Controller of the motherboard does not support the capacity of the new drive and might need updating.

I have found on older motherboards it is just better to buy a SATA Controller with a later chip set to use large capacity SATA drives.

Edit : I see the specs for that motherboard is SATA and not SATA II - so considering a new add-on SATA II controller card might be the way to go

1. Update the MB Bios to latest version.
2. Go to Hitachi site and download manual for drive, check for SATA1 jumpers. Aparrently there is also a software utility from them that could perform the same function but that means seeing it in the bios I suspect.
