Hi
I'm trying to find out how to get satellite via MWeb/DSTV dish - no-one there knows what's going on. It used to be WorldOnline/Tiscali, bought out by MWeb, and the service is apparently not offered to new clients.

Can anyone confirm?

I am in a remote area, and the fastest I can get is EDGE through my datacard. 3G will never reach me, and bi-directional satellite is way too expensive.

I would be happy to buy a second-hand card and take over an existing contract if MWeb is willing. Any offers?

Thanks.
Toni

Thanks - they say they're also discontinued the service.
Only other options are two-way (Telkom or Sentech) and extremely expensive.

I have a satellite card floating around somewhere i think fomr one of the old worldonline / Tiscali deals. It was never any good tho, always pretty slow and still required your upstream/parity check connection. How far are you away from everything? are you not in a position to point a Yagi or similar antenna in the direction of a tower that *is* 3G enabled?

Hmm, I'm connected via a yagi now, and the MTN guys recently came out to my farm with a 3G antenna to test when Grahamstown came online last month. I'm way too far out of their footprint (15 k's from town).

I've since phoned SAINET and they no longer offer it either. Telkom's 2-way works out to about R1.20 per Mb and Sentech's is even more.

I'm totally stuck, so I thought even if I had a dodgy downlink, at least it's uncapped, and I've got EDGE to fall back on if the link goes down.

How? Don't you need line-of-site?
We investigated doing it, but would need to relay the signal to various points on hilltops, some of which have no power (needed for the antennas).

Is there some other way I'm not aware of?

Would be nice if you could get a connection to Rhodes in Gtown, they have plenty of BW :p
