Anyone have experience using satellite internet? I was looking at Vox’s offering of 20mbps uncapped for 1399/month. Do you truly get speeds of 20mbps? 24/7 uptime?

I helped a client on a farm with no other options get the Moreclick setup a while back, its about R200 a month cheaper than Vox if you go for the VOIP option. Install was about 2.5k including travel costs, was done in about 3 days from start to installer showing up.

VOIP phone through Huge works well and whatsapp calls are ok too, but latency is really bad about 700 to 800ms. Some sites time you out, nothing live works - no sport/skype/zoom. They say netflix works but not prime

I haven't seen 20mbps, speedtests usually less 1mb - but when you download a big file it gets better after a couple of minutes. Somedays its better than others.

If you have no other option in the sticks, at least its something - but if there's a wisp or lte I would say rather go with that. Latency is super frustrating.

Vox is good but wait for Starlink Spacex internet
It won’t be here until 2022 though? I need something in the meantime!

I see. Thanks for the input. So I take it streaming/IPTV in HD doesn’t work?

I wonder if cloudflare warp vpn would help, it was created to improve mobile/lte connections and their associated latency and packet loss so maybe it could help with satellite.

If you run a large download which eventually gets faster it sounds like they do not use any TCP acceleration on the satellite service, warp uses UDP so it may help.

https://1.1.1.1/ (the app has 2 modes, 1.1.1.1, and 1.1.1.1 with warp)
