Satellite vs optic fibre – is there a case?

With the media hype about the newly landed West African Cable System offering 5,12 Tbps capacity from early next year, satellites have been pushed into the background with some even doubting that there is a future for these "birds in the sky".

My biggest issue with Satellite is latency and obviously currently the price for placing them up in the sky and keeping them there.

Also I am a big fan of keeping space clean of junk, last thing we want is one day when we(humanity) can explore the stars to have millions of bolts traveling at odd trajectories and faster than bullets.

That is my problem, thanx to gravity they tend not to go out into the universe.... more like hang around and chill
