SATRIX investment advice

Does anyone have any advice for me with regards to "Satrix Funds". Looking at medium term(3-5year) capital growth with low risk exposure. If there are any other "passively" managed funds that are noteworthy, please don't hesitate to mention them. The initial capital investment would be 1 million, also are there any independent financial public forums available on the SA internet domain where one can discuss investment strategies with like-minded individuals ?
 
1 million. geez thats alot of smack! try www.sharechat.co.za. retail bonds is always an option. nice return on those. only potential drawback could be that you giving it to the government. 1 million! *insert doctor evil booming voice* schweeeeeet!

let me guess - you are a FA(financial adviser) ;)

I don't trust FA's they lean more towards funds that they get higher kickbacks from, with regards to the "advice" i'm seeking for "free" - why not?? we now live in a collective information age where we(the public) have better resources @our disposal than some greedy FA looking after their own interest. Hell, I would much rather hear from 10 individuals investment experience than some fat cat FA

You are wanting advice on a public forum about investing a million rand?!?! And you think I am the one being foolish here. Anyone who is qualified to advise you on such a matter is highly unlikely to give this advice on a forum without the necessary information being acquired. Perhaps do a little reading up on the FAIS Act.....

Oh, and as for your reference to those replying in a constructive manner, could you point them out to me? I must have missed their posts.

I have had FA's advising me to invest in certain unit trusts which have lost value drastically.
At the end of the day you need to closely monitor the fund and be prepared to move them if and when required.

Oh dear... you see this is the sort of advice you get on a public forum. Someone who is looking for "capital growth with low risk exposure" should not be trying to time the markets. But anyway the OP has made it clear that he does not value my advice so I'll leave the experts on here to it....

Dude, I deal with REAL people on a daily basis. I am hardly likely to get my ego bruised by some anonymous individual, who knows nothing about me, and seems to think he is smart because he has made a decision to get his investment advice on an anonymous forum, thus saving a few thousand rand :rolleyes:

There is nothing wrong with Satrix but the fact that you seem to know absolutely nothing about what you are doing increases the risk substantially. But as stated.... good luck.

Ha ha even the simplest things are lost on you.... did you note earlier where I said "Good luck. Actually, who am I fooling, here's hoping you see your ass...."? Well I would have assumed a reasonable person (my mistake I know!) would have realised that the second good luck was dripping in sarcasm....

My initial comment was justified. It was you who then thought you'd grow your e-penis with your response! If you approach either Satrix or someone like Allan Gray they will tell you straight out that if you invest directly with them they do not provide advice. That is why their costs are cheaper direct. That was my insinuation. I even added a wink for good measure but clearly I hit a sore point about you being a bit of a cheap skate when it comes to paying for your advice.

Nah, I prefer playing with the true egotistical people on here who think they can impress everyone by coming on here mentioning how great they are because they have R1mill to invest. Are we all supposed to drop at your feet? Someone who was truly well off would already have a broker close at hand... so I for one am not impressed.
 
Satrix ETFs are also available through accredited Financial Service Providers. For a small commission, they offer the client independent investment and financial advice. FSPs also assist in: completion of forms, FICA requirements, redemptions, client information changes, etc.

FYI: you dont need a broker to invest in satrix etf's!! you'll end up paying 3% of capital upfront and a "management" fee of 1% annually even though the charges are capped its still high when comparing "direct investment" with them(satrix)

Back to the original question.

I am invested with Satrix. Its worked out the cheapest for me in the longterm with regards to cost. Satrix are the cheapest ETF's around if you go direct. I have a monthly debit order and the the funds are split evenly across four funds, Satrix DIVI, Satrix 40, Satrix FINI and Satrix RESI. They have an easy online system where you can check daily what the value of each fund is worth. Also it was easy to withdraw funds when I needed to. It took 4 days from when I sent the instruction to disinvest to when the money was cleared in my account. Dividend are paid quarterly but can be re-invested if you choose to.

Go directly with Satrix and not through a broker. I had my funds split over four indices to balance it more evenly.
