Your cache won't save you bandwidth, unless you switch off automatic refresh in the browser itself. Then it's not any real saving, since you use bandwidth up every time you click another link.

Bandwidth saving from caching, is when an ISP does it to save bandwidth costs.

When clients request a particular page, all clients that request the same page in a specified time, get the cached page sent to them.

Then that page is allowed to be refreshed, for the cache in the ISP's servers, every hour or more.

One extremely effective way to save bandwidth, and therefore cost, is to turn off images in your browser, only downloading those you really need. I can't speak for other browsers, but Opera has always had a brilliant little instant button on the toolbar which does this. You can set 'no images' by default, and just hit that button when you see frames which might contain images you want. Also eliminates a lot (but not all) of the banners and ads which chew up your bandwidth.

Ensuring you only give out a web-based e-mail address to anyone who might send you spam (e.g. signing up for various services) also gives you the opportunity to pre-filter your (junk) mail without actually having to download it (and chew up more bandwidth) as you would have to with a normal e-mail program.

You could increase the space used on your PC for cache,

and you can force things that wouldn't usually be cached to be cached by using an add-on, for Firefox, can't remember what it was, but it alters headers for sites and files and stuff... That's one of the ways download thingys for streaming media works, coz some sites block you from downloading certain things, so you change the headers and then they're downloaded... Some sites also block protected flash, etc... So you'd be caching the whole page and be saving a lot of band-width... etc, etc...

May be partially illegal in some cases.
