Saving youtube videos... on the UCT computers?

Does anyone know a way to save youtube videos in the UCT labs.

I've tried a couple of things including looking in the cache (firefox), trying portable video downloaders, getting a portable operating system and then installing widgets/add-ons/apps on the operating system but it doesn't seem to be working.

I've also tried those enter the url sites but they take forever and i can never wait long enough to see if they actually work. On top of that the fact that it takes so long to download defeats the point otherwise I could just do it at home.

Yip, I luv VLC. The problem I found is if I want to put something onto a disk and play it on a dvd player etc it might not work. I have tried to convert FLV to WMA/MP4 etc using Any Video Converter and didn't have any luck. I didn't explain myself properly.
But yes it plays just fine on VLC, which as you know plays almost any format which is why its so great.

I've already tried this but the button never pops up... on top of that I tested using a "ten second countdown" video:(

Busy checking this out at the moment...

If anyone's in UCT and is able to download videos I'd really enjoy your input!
 
What you could do is head over to http://www.portableapps.com and download the firefox portable or the entire portable suite.

Then add the DownloadHelper Add-On to Firefox, configure the proxy for UCT, then the DownloadHelper Add-On will light up and have an animated icon somewhere on the top left when there is content on the site available to download. Then all you do is click on it and it'll save the video :)

I currently do this on CPUT campus PCs and works like a charm. Also saves my passwords and preferences on my flash drive so I never have to type it all in every time, nor do I have to remember them.

Also, can save all my bookmarks and sync with my firefox from my home PC.
