I see that sawireless has a phone number at last and a new price list + new base stations:eek:

yeah, another dodgy WISP operating without a license :P

They could be awesome though, or they could be really crap... some user feedback would be good. (preferebly by someone with more than 2 posts on MyADSL)

lol, I remember the last time this thread went around. Suddenly all the SAWireless users sign up and prtaise the company.

I have also seen the website, some think this is a dodgy business and other I see do not believe.

I can tell you, some of my friends and neighbours were "conned" into getting this service from sawirelss, coz it was so cheap and easy to install.
i say "conned" coz that is what it actually was...a big con.

It woks, then it doesnt work and then it works again. Plus the speeds you pay for, is not the speeds you get. Up until recently, I believe they were using a 512 speed and sharing it between all the customers. Now i dont know how many users there is and if this speed "sharing" line was changed, but still....what mickey mouse company will do this?

Some of my friends are not very happy about this, and they are thinking of going somewhere else, soon i guess too.

Has any one else experienced such crappy service from sawirless as well? or is it just an isolated case????

Equipment

Hi just want to find out what equipment have you received from us so we can sort your problem out ,as it looks like you are the only isolated case.

Hey Dragonslayer

Dont know who your friends are, but if they are having problems, they should complain less and actually contact the sawireless support. I work for Maia Technologies and we did support and installations for SAWireless. Their internet works, it is not the best for gaming thanks to the higher latencies, however, it is very cost effective. Those interested, avg speed I get (yes I do use them) is around 380k - 450k on a 512 line. For those wondering why we dont do support anymore, we have outgrown this demand and are currently busy with other projects.

SAWireless should be advised to read the latest ICASA regulations, as certian clauses affect providers across all mediums of access.

4.2 Any services provided with speeds lower than those defined as Broadband, shall not be advertised as Broadband services.

"Broadband" means an always-on data connection that is able to support various interactive services, and has the ability of a minimum download speed of 256 Killo bits per second.

It also worries me that the rest of the posts on this forum by Azazel are actually asking for help setting up a WISP:

Hey, I see u guys know how the MikroTik devices work. We are having hard time setting our router board up. It cant handle the bandwidth, too many users = slow internet, even if we disable p2p routing. Could you guys direct me to a link of a person that is able to offer advice and help with setup. Or could one of you guys maybe help.
Thanks in advance

Hey guys, I am looking to set up a WISP in my area, but dont really have a clue on how to do this. What licences do i need to get, do i need a licence to use satelite connection? what equipment should i have?
I aint scared of making noises, and I like challenging big corporations, ask absa.
Any help or replies will be greatly appreciated.

hahahah, lol. These guys sound funny, I wouldnt trust it.

But it is a great price, If they just did trials and offered money back if it doesnt work etc.

The problem is , SAWireless, you never say anythign much to make anyone believe your service actually works, just always a bunch of 1-5 post users saying it works well etc.

Dont you want to tell us who you use for bandwidth, whether you shape, contention ratios, anything that could get peopel to believe you actually offer a service?

I've been speaking to the propietor of SAWireless on Skype, he seems to have good intensions and the physical infrastructure is sound (RB112's, RB500's and Linksys sytems for thier clients).

Should they make a sucessfull connection to JaWUG, then we sould have some feasable feedback from users who can trial the connectivity without shelling out for equipment, as it is already in place.

I have requested thay they post far more technical details regards thier internet connectivity especially.

Thanks, well im in Cape Town, so I wouldnt really be able to use them anyway.

Are they actually planning to connect to JaWug though? That would be great for them and alot of people I geuss.

A company was going to do that with the Cape Town Wug. It never worked out though.

There are alot of us on CTWUG that are willing to share our net connections though :D

To take offence or not to take offence

To the respone of me asking for help on setting up a WISP. SA Wireless has recently swopped their dated equipment for RB500 and RB112, but has hard time setting them up. What I was looking for, was for someone to help us set this service up. However, doesnt look like too many people know what is going on. To the other questions posed by people, I wish I could say more, nut I no longer am outsourced by SAWireless, thus I no longer have a feel for their structure. VIVA Corporate world!!

AFAIK, Jawug will not be partnering with sawireless in any way. Jawug is not commercial, and thus will not support commercial ventures
