So got a email this morning at 11 that Openserve will no longer replace the copper cables. And that Afrihost will terminate our contract.

Fast forward to 2pm and poof no more internet for me. Now we're scrambling to find a new provider. And seeing that was either adsl or Cell. No Fibre in town

They stole our copper cables about 4 years back, no replacing the cables either. Had to live with Rain for a couple years until fibre arrived.

Condolences.

Get a prepaid pre rica sim from a cell phone repair shop, test all 3 networks

I hate to say this but Rain is your only option. You can get Startlink if you are in an 8th world country.

Sorry bro. LTE is the only way. Is there any plans for fibre at all?

My condolences... Same happened at my parents house, they had Pure DSL with Afrihost and the copper cables were damaged due to contractors working in the area. No replacement of copper cables, Internet was gone for a good 4 weeks until Openserve contractors installed fiber. We signed up with Afrihost Pure Fiber as soon as the network became available. Enjoying high speed fiber internet ever since. My advise will be to wait it out until Openserve replace the copper cables in your area with fiber, or get a LTE connection to help you out. You can contact Openserve to enquire when they will move your area to fiber. As far as I know, they will eventually replace all areas with Openserve fiber.

Hi
Please drop me a PM, so I check the confirmation from Openserve.

I guess in comparison I should be thankful, VDSL available (which is what I use), 5G available (spotty performance though :cautious:) and fibre available (octotel only :cautious:)

although to be fair OP, you're saying goodbye to DSL, doesn't look like your ISP could do much about it other than perhaps handle the situation better by proactively offering you alternatives etc

The weird part, according to a person on our local WhatsApp group Openserve told her that there is a power problem a town over and that's why our services went down today, and it should be fixed by tomorrow, so I have no clue why....?

Something is fishy here either Openserve is lying to one of their customer or Afrihost is lying.

If a person on your local WhatsApp group said it then it must be true.

Telkom LTE is really good to me [almost 3 years now] - Get avg of 8Mbps [high being 11, although it's a 'best effort' for 10Mbps] - this on a R259 pm prepaid service [250Gb at fullspeed the uncapped at 2Mbps].
Good enough to have watched the RWC and now the CWC via DSTV Stream.
Youtube streams at 1080 with no buffering and torrents download at over 1Mbps.
Telkom's top up data is supercheap.

Rain doesn't do too well in my part of town, so had to ditch them.

BEST Advice: test the carriers in your area and look at their deals...

Years back I had the same issue at my parents place. I don't blame Afrihost, it was all Telkom. The only feasible option I had was Telkom LTE, which brought along many problems of its own.

Yay. Seems openserve "lied" as there was a power supply problem a town over, Eskom fixed it today, and so now waiting for Afrihost to reinstate my services.

Can you please send me a pm with your email address for me to investigate.

Plenty of people in RSA getting Starlink.
