This year end has been awful thus far. I've been losing friends and collegues a plenty.
From my collegues' side; one young female teacher (one of our young "Turks" at my school) has left our school to take a another post at another school. I will miss her dearly.
Another teacher's husband got a major promotion and they will be moving to Richards Bay over this holiday. She was a delightful and classy lady and will be sorely missed by everyone.
Another male collegue who basically took me under his wing when I started in my job also took up another post at another school, doing remedial training for which he was actually trained. His humour could lift up even the most somber of days.
Our music teacher, a stately lady of 70 years old, we found out 5 days ago, has a very aggressive type of blood cancer. The doctors give her a max of 3 months.
My friends away from work are also falling away by the number. One friend has already left for England 2 months ago. Another girlfriend has resigned her teaching job (it's a long story actually) to take up acting for which she was trained. Her smile alone can brighten up anyone's day. I will miss her extremely. She has a really addictive personality.
And then I also just now said goodbye to another friend. He also accepted a promotion. A more witty, intelligent and well-spoken guy I've never met. He can find something interesting or funny to say in literally any and all conversations if he chose too, and he frequently did. There were never a dull moment with him in a conversation. Our country can be proud to have him as a pilot in our Air Force.
Another friend of 17 years will also arrive in SA in about two weeks from Belgium, but I'll have to say goodbye to him as well 2 weeks thereafter. And my oldest friend, my first friend (when we both were 3 years old) has also arrived in SA on Sunday and will be leaving again on Sunday and who knows when I will see anyone of them again.
I've never lost so many people I care about in such a short space of time. This end of the year so far hasn't really been a time of rejoicing.
I hate goodbyes!
