Well, after being an Mweb ADSL user for many years, I decided to cut ADSL and go for V3G full time, as I do lots of traveling.....so I figured, rather have just one provider do everything for me - take care of my 3G needs at home and on the road. Well, was I wrong !!!!! While I have a great speed on 3G from my home, and coverage is good on the roads, it just does not make sense if you use more than 2GB a month, to ditch ADSL for V3G. V3G needs to seriously look at their pricing for the higher users.

I have now said sayonara to Vodacom as my main provider, and have gone over to Afrihost on ADSL - a linear rate at R 29.00 GB regardless how much you use !!!!!! My average use is 5 - 10 GB per month, and with Vodacom it's a no brainer, back to ADSL I go. I will still use my 3G modem and V3G while on the road, but it will be with a measly small prepaid package.
Until you catch a wake up Vodacom, it's sayonara from me.

All these "goodbye vodacom" threads should be combined, so maybe they can get an idea of the scope

You dont see people posting "hello Vodacom", but trust me, there are many many sign ups, so putting the very few people garggling pointlessly in the mybb forum into one thread, wont do much.

Just to put it in perspective....

If I use my average 10GB per month with my new ISP Afrihost, my TOTAL monthly cost will be R 612.00 (that includes the line rental, telephone/fax line etc )- plus R29.00 per 1GB after that

If I dare to continue to use 10 GB with V3G my monthly internet bill would be R 1989.00 - plus R 190.00 per GB after that !!!

Now, if I only use 10 GB per month, I would have saved R 1377.00 per month, by switching, or R 16 524.00 at the end of every year - enough to treat me to a holiday in Mauritius every year

I am sure the good folks at Vodacom have a reason for this high price for higher users, either

a) They do not have enough capacity to handle the customers that would join Vodacom if they had more competitive pricing

b) They are happy just catching all the millions of small fry that go for small packages, to do limited data with their cellphone etc

c) They have seriously thought about their bad pricing, and are working on something now

d) There are politics involved in the pricing that we are not aware of, and that they are told to keep quite about

e) None of the above, they just don't give a damn, they are making enough money as it is

Whatever the reason, I still think they provide a very good service - in my area anyway, very high U/D speeds, good coverage etc. It is just disappointing to see that they have priced themselves out of the 2GB and above market. If their pricing was better, I would be back to V3G in a flash. I already have a Dovado USB 3G wireless router in my house, that works great and makes my entire property wireless.

Guess that means I can go ahead and book my trip to Mauritius, using the money I will be saving on my broadband

Have a good weekend, and don't forget to watch the rugby this afternoon
