Hello
I have a small business 2003 server. My system state backup does not work and makes the server hangs. So I can’t restore AD.
I have a copy of the data of the hard drive before I reloaded it. I need to restore the exchange and I am not sure how to do it can anybody shed some light on it for me

You're going to have to install Exchange with the /DisasterRecovery switch. Once it is installed you can mount the old databases back into it and recover the mailboxes. You will have to create new mailboxes for the users as the GUIDs on the new AD won't match the old ones, also their Outlook profiles will need to be recreated.

You can use something like ExMerge to get the data out of the old mailboxes into PSTs which you can then import into the new mailboxes

"install Exchange with the /DisasterRecovery switch" do yo have this function in small business?

Hi There,
Seems you have an answer but it does show that Exchange is not for the smaller business user unless they have some very specialised skills.
Did you approach Microsoft for assistance?

Their response would have been interesting to see too.

Regards

Tim

SBS was built with small businesses in mind with simpler administration than a full blown server infrastructure.

SBS = Small Business Server

It can take up to 75 users, it provides Exchange, SharePoint, AD from a single box.

MS has discontinued SBS though in favour of Office 365 which will work out much better for small businesses.
