SBS2008 and Windows 7 Pro, strange netwrok issue.

Hi,

I have a machine here that from time to time just refuses to work with the server.

Turn the machine on, go to a network map from the server and it opens slowly, try open it again and it is even slower, by the 3'rd or 4'th time the explorer window just hangs.

If I restart the server it works perfectly again..


Any Suggestions?
 
Check Windows 7's "netbios over TCPIP" setting.
under the network adapter settings. / TCPIP
It's probably disabled.

It wasn't.

Irrelevant now, the pc is reloaded and working perfectly again.
Think all the Internet "free" game downloads he does gave him a sick registry.

Worked perfectly till Saturday.

Back to the same issues (along with the computer standing at "please wait" after a reboot for around 15 minutes).
 
Got network drives and such working (still with a 15 minute bootup time) but email is now permanently on "trying to connect".
 
What if you uninstall the Sophos?

Also there is a known problem with smb2 give that a google.
 
Sounds like DNS/Network discovery issues

Is the SBS server listed as the primary WINS and DNS server on the PC?

Try some simple ping and NSlookups to check

ping sbsservername
ping sbsservername.domain.local

nslookup www.co.za sbsserverip
nslookup sbsservername sbsserverip
 
I hate SBS, Also had strange DNS issues.

Moving onto the full products now.
 
Right click on command prompt and run as administrator then:

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults, type: netsh int ip reset reset.log

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults, type: netsh winsock reset catalog
