Hi people. This is a clever (wicked) scam. A guy phone me on Saterday 5 September 2009 with a story that I won a competition (being a Cell C subscriber) and the prize is this and that but if you want you can convert the price to a cash pay out worth R20000,00 I was told what to do and did everything as told. This is how it works.
I was to buy a R150,00 Cell C recharge voucher from any Engen or Caltex filling station within the next hour and phone this number 0746718961 within that hour. (That I did) Returning his call he told me not to use this recharge voucher until Monday 12:00h because before Monday a agent from Cell C would visit me. I was to give him the recharge voucher, he will give me a new voucher to the same value and a cheque for R20000,00 which I can then bank immediatley. The voucher which I bought would be faxed to Cell C Offices and as soon as they verify that the Serial number, Seq number and Pin number (which I had to give him when I returned his call) are the same, they release the stop on the cheque and there u go, u have received u'r prize.
Now how lekka does that not sound, hey?
Nobody ever pitched at my house so Monday, 07 September 2009 just after 12:00h I tried to recharge my Account with the voucher but it wouldn't work. I contacted Cell C and I must say they were brilliant. After contacting 3 more toll free numbers they gave me I had R100,00 of the R150,00 back and put it on my phone. The scammers only used R50,00 of the airtime they managed to steel from me.
I would like to congratulate Cell C and thank them for their help and concern about the scam. Well done people.
The idea behind this thread is obviously to warn everybody out there about this scam.
Keep well.
Slumdog.
