Anyone else have experience with this problem - I keep getting new OTP SMSes from MTN.

Joined them about a month ago for an LTE access package. During setup they needed to send an OTP to my cellphone, but the lady told me not to worry about turning my phone on as they can bypass that.... now I keep getting them every few days.

I'm not really worried for 2 reasons;
1. The account can't be added to, only possible issue is too much bandwidth usage as it has a softcap. But no sign of that.
2. I've heard that reporting fraud to MTN is a waste of time..

What are the OTPs for? Does it relate accessing MTN system or something else?
No details included, except that it's from MTN. I can only presume it's to access my LTE usage. And then seems to be an inside job.

They will call you and ask for the OTP number and DON'T GIVE IT TO THEM.

It's someone trying to add a new contract to your profile. Once the have it up and running you will not easily get it off your name and you will have to pay in order to not be black listed by the feelfokall MTN.

Yes it happens to me. Probably got about 30 OTPs in the few days after my last upgrade.

Also get the odd one now and then, completely unrelated to anything I’m doing. Unfortunately, their system is so buggy that there’s no way to know if it’s fraud or not. And it’s not necessarily fine just because you have a capped line. Could be someone adding a contract to your account so they can get the phone etc.

Of course not. But about 7 or 8 received so far and no phone calls. As mentioned, a staff member told me they have a way to bypass the OTP on their terminals so seems to be related to that. But who knows...

Thanks, I'll keep an eye on that too.

Yeah, good idea. @3WA do you know if they give reference nos.? If not, no point. Like Multichoice, they don't :rolleyes:
I think they do. Can always just send them an email so you’ve got documentation. It’s not about them reading it, after all, it’s just about you being able to prove you let them know.

It’s always worth having proof you reported it your side, even if it’s going in to void later on you can say see I sent this email got an auto reply with a ref number.

Thanks all. I'm still gonna send that email just in case, but looks like more of the same SA "service".
