Have just received a phone call from 021 854 4263 by a Gupta sounding male who "detected" a problem on my computer. I hung up but others might note it.

Yep, this has been going for years. We get a call once every few months from them. I normally respond with something like "Die in a fire" and hang up.
 
Say "Okay, please hold on while I get to my PC" or similar, then put the phone down (don't hang up) and go on with whatever you were doing before.
Every minute you waste of their time is another minute they won't be scamming someone who may actually fall for their BS
 
I haven't received a call like that in a very long time. The last time the guy said "I'm phoning about your computer" and before he could say anything more, I got soooo "excited" and said: " I won a computer!" I went on to tell him how excited I was about this computer that I won and then he said that I needed to pay courier fee to get the pc and I was like no .. I'm coming to fetch it because I can't wait that long and I want to come right now and asked for his address. We kept going back and forth with him saying that I can't come and fetch it and they have to deliver to me... anyway... he eventually put the phone down on me when realised that he was getting no where with me...but I had a good laugh.
 
I try to keep them busy as long as possible. Had the guy try to troubleshoot why I couldn't see the error log... I was on Linux.
 
Searched Truecaller for that number and it said its a scam caller :)

I haven't had a call in a long time come to think of it.
 
just say you dont have a computer.

i know someone who used to play stupid and talk to them for ages and keep them occupied, the same guy kept calling back. it ended up in the guy shouting, "i will get you! mark my words!" ..lol

My gran got a call like this, kept asking what it's about because she doesn't know what it is, and after several minutes told the person she doesn't even have a computer. He reacted with "Oh, **** off!" and slammed the phone down. :D
