Scanner AC adapter

I think I'm looking for an AC adapter for an HP ScanJet 2400. The reason I say "think" is because the scanner has become a paperweight after plugging it in the other day and the AC adapter smells suspect (read "like burnt plastic"). Is there anywhere in Cape Town that sells such adapters (12V 1250mA) with the right size connector (or provides a set of different connectors). Obviously if the price is exorbitant I'll just buy a new scanner but would help to know if getting a new adapter is feasible.
