Software gives me a 'cannot connect to scanner' error. When I troubleshoot the device in devive manager it claims to be working. All drivers are installed and I've never had this problem before... Any ideas?

Why can't computers 'just work'?

*sigh*

The hardware works, it's always the software !!:D;)

Posted like a true hardware dude :p

Is it an HP scanner? USB or Parallel connection?

- If HP and USB, chances are the software is not right, or the USB connection is buggered (as mine was form new).

- If parallel connection, then it must be attached and switched on before booting the PC, otherwise the PC will not recognise the device properly.

It does not even have to be "buggered"... here is the problem...

Most of these new USB multi-function printers don't come with their own USB cable. so the computer shops sell you an El Cheapo USB cable with the device that cannot handle the bi-directional transfer of info. Buy a higher quality USB cable and you should be OK. that is what happened to me with my new Epson printer/scanner.

Check your cable I had 3 cables parralal that got buggered so I just got a new scanner at the end of the day.
