Where Schools can pick this up is with an IQ Test or similar tests they may use nowadays to evaluate young people. Little Johnny may score 120 or more as an example for his IQ, but at School he will score grades that just allows him to pass.
I would rather think little Johnny is clever enough to just do the minimum work needed to pass which in itself shows intelligence.
I know this is a silly example, but my point is on average males score less than their female counterparts, which I think is more a case of females being more diligent than actually more intelligent.

Yip...my kid has scored (twice) in the top 2% IQ (I think that's supposed to be above 132). He's not the top of his grade but is pretty average when it comes to academics (besides the stuff that interests him).

sorry for the bump but as a proud dad i had to mention that my daughter was chosen as a prefect at her school today and to think when i was at school i was scared of the prefects.

well done!!!!
 
ha ha ha thanks man. i am even before she became a prefect. this 12 yr old has street smarts and knows way toooo much for her age but we are partners in crime.

Good luck. My first 'girlfriend' in Grade 6 (both of us were) was always wanting me to make out with her and put my nasty hands all over her. Those Grade 6 girls are scary :-)

hey me too buddy her grade 6 prize giving is also thursday night but i wanna watch SA got talent.
 
If I miss this one I'm dead! So are you... record it and watch it later!

just kidding i will record the tv programme.
 
well not to piss on your parade :) but in Grade 7 i took nearly every award except art i think ? average of around 96%.

and im in uni now.. and getting the same marks as everyone :P
