Okay, never mind the thread title.

but I don't believe it.. again

I just get on and read a bunch of posts about how iBurst isn't working and isn't worth in CPT anymore etc.. And Im think, well you know it usually works pretty well around here.

And the next second, bam, dead. Plumstead tower down. I'm now posting this because I have an insanely bad signal to the Kenilworth tower, no lights show on the UTD, you would think its dead, but if you wait about 5 minutes it can load one myADSL page. You have no idea how long I waited just to be able to post this.

Well the point is it sucks, honestly, this is about the 3-4 time in two weeks now it must have been down/unusable. :(

Anyway, getting a 41.208.xx.xx IP off Kenilworth, pretty interesting, seeing as I have nothing else I could do now :/
Maybe this is some sort of upgrade which we obviously wouldn't know about and which would kill the tower.. dead.

I'm getting the 41.208.xxx.xxx IP range from Plumstead tower and even though the iburst speed test shows +1mbps it's far slower than dialup to any site including this forum.
And nothing shows on the incident report site either.

Looks like it's going from bad to worse.

iBurst normally do maintenance on Wednesdays midnite. They mentioned it on their website.

It's been messing around most of the day and even when they finished playing around I kept getting a dead IP until a min ago.

That's quite weird. If we get slow speeds in Pretoria, iBurst is flying in Cape Town & vice versa.

Wonder what's going on?

Yes it is strange that the problems are shifting around to different areas, but as it is now it can only get worse as they are overextending their resources trying to get new customers and putting up new towers without fixing the problems with the existing towers.

Are you sure that was the Plumstead tower? Because im back on the normal IP range now, and I only got that range last night when the Plumstead tower was definitely dead, so I was getting "signal" from the Kenilworth tower.

I would think that your connection to the Kenilworth tower would be okay, so maby you never noticed Plumstead was down?? Did you check on UTts..

Are you a iBurst rep here MrH? I just noticed all your posts are in iBurst section ONLY

Spoken to iBurst, seems they are attending to the issue.

My msg to them:

Subject: IP 196.46.64/65/66.xxx issues
Importance: High

Good morning Henry

Further to our telephone conversation of earlier this morning.

I experience disconnections and slower access to the internet while using these IP address ranges. I have spoken with two other iBurst users that are also connecting to the Gardens Centre tower in Cape Town and they are experiencing similar issues, however it seems users that are not in the CBD area does not experience this issue.

When yyy equals 64, 65 or 66 in this IP address range 196.45.yyy.xxx my connection to the internet, email, etc “times-out” i.e. no connectivity for a few seconds. My email application reports that “The connection to the server was interrupted, please contact your ISP if the problem …”
However when yyy equals 67, 68, 69 and 70 access speed increases considerably with no “time-outs“ or interrupted downloads of any kind. It seems that the 70 range delivers the best connection at the highest speeds.

The problem is intermitted as I have used a 66 IP with no disconnections for a few hours, however at a slower access speeds.

Trying to obtain a “good” IP (i.e. 67, 68, 69, and 70) and maintaining it is frustrating to say the least.

Below are some of the IP’s I’ve utilised and the results.

196.46.68.220 Good
196.46.68.178 Average
196.46.66.46 Poor
196.46.65.51 Disconnected
196.46.64.67 Disconnected
196.46.69.32 Good
196.46.64.78 Disconnected
196.46.69.160 Good
196.46.66.184 Disconnected
196.46.67.197 Average
196.46.70.139 Good
196.46.68.48 Good
196.46.66.168 Disconnected
196.46.67.136 Good
196.46.68.69 Good
196.46.67.129 Average
196.46.69.57 Good
196.46.66.168 Disconnected
196.46.66.80 Disconnected
196.46.68.204 Average
196.46.69.73 Good
196.46.70.134 Good

68; 69; 70 - Good - 70 being best
64; 65; 66 - Poor - 64 being worst, frequent disconnections

I hope this information will assist you in resolving the connectivity issue. Could I please ask that you keep me up to date regarding this issue, i.e. if you have found any problems and if so when you expect it to be resolved?

No I never checked which tower so you could be right:o

Actually... yes... but they were fired some time ago...

I have never worked for iburst or had anything to do with the company besides becomming a customer, maybe they should do some more firing and get qualified staff in all departments.

I totally agree! Tired of incompetent staff.

Iburst - this problem has been ongoing for some time now, particularly in the "colonies" outside Gauteng. It would be good to either:
a) Resolve the problem
b) Tell your customers what is happening and give an IDEA of the ETA to resolve...

Here's hoping...

I live near Bellville and my modem shows a 100% signal but my web browsing and download speeds are so damn slow. These forum pages take ages to load. This is very strange can anyone tell me what is happening? In the past a signal strength of 70% would get me faster speeds than this.

looks like iburst doing what eskom does with electricity. load balancing.

Yeah, not enough to go around with all the new customers so they decided to keep all the people happy half the time.:p
