Hi

We currently have a screamer connection in our place, however the wireless router we are using is pretty terrible. Can anyone give any advice on a good wireless router to buy, one that also has network ports though and not simply just wireless antenna. Our setup is 2 laptops and a desktop.

Also I will be needing to connect the desktop via a cable, as its too far to get a good wireless signal. I was thinking a 30m cable would do, its not actually that far but when tied neatly along the wall it will probably be around that length. With a cable that long will I need a repeater or some kind of amplification, or should it be fine?

Any help is appreciated.

Hi Kylie. Welcome to MyBB!

Does your router have a modem built in? Have a look at the D-Link 2640U - built in modem, 4x Ethernet ports and 802.11g wireless.

30m of Cat5e network cable is not that long. It will work perfectly, as long as the cable is shorter than 100m.

where is a good shop ot buy the Linksys WRT54GL ?
as my current router is in need of retirement :)

Thanks for the replies guys, one more thing, is it important for the router to be N as apposed to G for optimum speeds? Or it it negligible?

*edit: Yeah I will definitely need a router with a modem built in as well.

802.11n would only be beneficial if your laptops' wireless network cards support it. Think you'll be safe with 802.11g, since it's fast enough for general activities online.
