One of my mates has been looking for software that he can use while playing games to record the gameplay. He has used fraps before, but as soon as he starts playing, the screen just goes blank. So he is looking for something else that he might use to record his gameplay. He has tried recording FIFA14 and NFS Rivals and both makes his screen just go blank.

His pc specs are as follows:
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3570 CPU @ 3.40GHz
Memory (RAM) 12.0 GB
Graphics NVIDIA GeForce GT 640

If you guys know or use anything else that works fine, let me know.

Assuming his games are legit, Origin has a built in recorder, press Shift+ F1 then press the 3rd button while in game.

I'm almost certain the games are not legit, but if the games are, I will tell him about origin's recorder

OverWolf ?

I have it, I've never used it but it's extremely fantastic. Or so it seems. I don't record and for socializing I don't mind minimizing but for people who want to stay in the game and have recording capabilities well then get OverWolf and Bob's your uncle.

get it here : HERE

12GB ram and a pretty good 3rd gen i5. Why the hell is he using a below entry level GPU?

Hey! I have a GT620 and it runs skyrim on High perfectly fine!!!

I suppose when my mate bought his PC, he was under the impression to get the best CPU he can afford and neglect the GPU

That was a poor decision on his part. His video card is a piece of crap. He'd have been better off using on-board Intel graphics and saving up for a month or two.

Try Open Broadcaster Software, it is free and open source.

It's actually meant for streaming but you can capture to local disk. It does not capture 1:1 frames as it encodes the video, but with a proper setup you can get some VERY good quality 1080p captures and it doesn't affect your FPS at all that I've noticed. Captured filesize is also relatively tiny due to encoding.
