Screen flickers on bootup

Hi

i have a problem atm when i boot my pc up first thing in the morning my screen flickers and then stablises on its own if i leave my pc off for say 2 or 3 hrs and switch it on again does the same thing.i am running windows vista sp1 with a geforce 8800gts video card,this started out of the blue from tuesday. i have a 22inch lcd screen

For how long does the flickering last? This doesn't sound too serious to me, but I think you ought to be starting to work a new lcd into your budget. What's the age of the lcd and brand?

Samsung lcd about 4 years old flickers right at the start of booting sometimes through just into the windows then stops if i reboot its fine if i switch off the pc for a long peroid of time it flickers

Does it do the same when you get back to your PC after 3 hours (without it entering standby), but leave the LCD off during this time?

only if the pc has been turned off have not tried standby

I honestly think it's age, although I've had only good experiences with Samsung.

well i did a simple test this morning i left the screen off when i booted up and it did it still it seems it does it till the screen warms up seems the screen is on its way out then

Yip, sounds like the backlight is on its way out. It is possible to repair the backlight, but you'll have to decide whether it's worth the money. Good excuse to upgrade to an LED-backlit LCD
