Screen for Gaming

No HDMI input? Strange. All new GPU's have a HDMI connector speeding up transfer rates...

My Geforce GTX 590 has 3 DVI ports but no HDMI so its not really a problem if it doesnt have

LOL...
Sell your 590 and buy 2 X 560's then you can afford a 26. ;)

J/K. Keep an eye out for specials at Game etc. I bought a 24" Samsung for R1400.... Fair enough it is not LED, but LCD. But not much difference in clarity/quality. Pity you not in JHB - there will be MASSIVE specials at Rage this weekend! If you know of someone coming through then maybe ask them to have a look?

We have a shop here with a birthday special www.zones.co.za

Kewl.

Well, my answer then is that I don't really know Philips products that well and would not be able to tell you whether it is a good/bad buy. I would steer clear of 22" though. Bigger is better in the case of screens... :D

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

This is not the BLOPS thread.

This is serious. What do you mean faster transfer rates? Or was it sarcasm?

Pretty sure it's just ignorance talking. In any case, buying screens is really difficult at the moment. The new Samsung range is pretty crap and the screens that get the best reviews overseas aren't available locally.

No noticeable difference between HDMI and DVI in terms of quality at this point. HDMI is just convenient to push sound across as well.

"LED" screens are still LCD screens but with a LED back light.

As for the topic:
LED is overrated
-Brightness: Yes they are very bright but unless you intend to burn your retina all day long, you'll probably end up turning that down anyway.
- Colour wise: Don't let the Million-billion contrast ratio fool you, it's just a marketing gimmick.
- Convenience: They are thin which makes them convenient to lug around.
- Brand: I've only really used Samsung or LG (Personally I used to like Samsung but not so keen on their new range at the moment)
- Panel: Most screens use TN Panels which are cheaper, have fast response times but don't always have the best viewing angle. IPS panels have better colour reproduction and no viewing angle issue. An easy example would be the iPhone 4 and all Macs have an IPS panel
- Size: Personally 26"/27" is too big for me, I'm quite content with my 24".

That was my original understanding as well. Silly me for even entertaining any benefit of doubt. ;)

Anyway, on topic, what do reviews say? Most products from Philips are good.

If the specs are good and has at least DVI input (same as HDMI but mostly without audio) then I see no reason why the screen would be bad.

Good price too.

+1

One has to LoL at these noobs. Can't really blame them though for falling for marketing gimmick. :/

S1ght, I must correct you on one aspect.

Not all Macs are IPS. Only Cinema Displays, iPhone 4 and iPads.

Some 27" IMacs might be, but iirc they aren't.

And MacBooks certainly aren't.

Mac screens are all great though, even TN. They use dithering to improve them.

Jy het obviously nog nie try games speel op HDMI nie, ek het dit gedoen op my T260 en dit sux.

If your gtx590 doesn't have hdmi on, then it isn't a gtx590. Maybe it's a mini-HDMI port or whatever it is called...?

This thread is getting more interesting by the minute.

I don't understand, Playing games on HDMI sucks? What do you mean?

My Asus HD6970 DCII has 2 DVI and 4 Displayport connectors.

I suspect the GTX590 might be an Asus DCII.

I can recommend the Samsung P2370.

I have one of these myself and really enjoy gaming on it. It's 23" as you can tell from the name and it realy is a beautiful screen. It's exceptionally thin and stylish and takes up very little space.

The drawback to the above is that it does have a seperate power supply that needs a plugpoint (i.e. you cant plug it into your PC's power, and tbh thats probably a good thing anyway). Another potential drawback is that it only has a DVI connector, which in your case is actually fine given that your GPU has DVI connectors.

For reference I have attached my PC to my 40" LCD TV using HDMI and there is not a noticeable difference to the end result. With your setup this screen should deliver you some awesome results.

There is also a P2370L, which has LED backlighting.

As far as price goes I cant help you unfortunately. I think when i bought mine it may have been close to 2k. These days it would most likely be less (i got it around 2 years ago). If this screen is not on the market anymore it would be a great shame, because it's awesome!

My bad, Apple have a way of making them all look so good :)

And it would be a bit strange if the OP's card didn't have HDMI, well if anything it should have a Mini-HDMI port according to the reference design...Even my GTX 560 has 2xDVI + 1 Mini-HDMI
