Hi,

So I bought a new screen today that was on special, Samsung S20A300N is the moddle number.

Everything is very smudgey. I have updated the screen drivers, aswell as my gfx card drivers, but its still exactly the same. I have set the screen resolution to 1600 x 900 (which is apparently what it should be), and I really don't know what else to do.

The folders etc all look fine in the desktop, but as soon as I try watch a stream/play a game etc, everything looks terrible.

Please advise if possible.

Thank you

OK, that screen's native resolution is 1600x900 and it has only D-Sub (VGA) input.

For optimal image quality, you should ensure that your games also use the 1600x900 resolution and that the refreshrate is 60Hz or as close as possible to that.
Lastly, you might want to press the Auto button on the screen once you've changed the resolution/refreshrate if the screen remains blurry.

Lastly, go through the screen's menu's (by pressing the buttons on the screen itself) and disable like Dynamic Contrast/Magic Bright.

Hi Pada, thank you for the response. The screen resolution is at 1600x900, and the refresh rate is at 60Hz. With regards to the games, I have set them at the native res aswell. I tried pressing the Auto button now, and it still seems exactly the same. With regards to the menu, It is all in Chinese for some reason, and I cannot for the life of me find the option to set it to English

See if you can't find a manual for the screen that explains where to change the language, and then you should be able to just follow the same steps (because the menu's should be structured the same over all the languages).
You might be able to change it using the screen's software.

Unfortunately I don't know what else it could be, unless perhaps I get so see a high resolution picture of the issue.

You need to take a photo of the screen not a screen shot as we will just see what is supposed to be shown to what you are actually seeing.

That picture's too small to discern if there is any smudging or not. Where did you buy the screen? Was it sealed in its box or was it a demo model? If you've found the manual, look for the sharpness setting and try adjust that.

Also make sure your drivers for your graphics card are updated and that for your video settings in the drivers page you haven't accidentally turned the sliders to have everything less sharpened. Games and movies render differently on your screen, so if they're smudgy but your desktop isn't, then its an issue with either your card or the screen. Since it was working perfectly before you switched out, it must be the screen.

Posting a screenshot won't help me diagnose your screen. We'll need a picture taken with a camera.

Oh ok, thanks for the help so far. I just moved to the UK, don't have a camera right now. I will try organise one during the course of the day and post pictures.

Ok I got hold of a camera, but the photos I have taken hardly came out at all, not even worth posting. I don't know if this is relevant at all, but the screen was the last 1 on sale, and it came off the display shelf...

and it came off the display shelf...

Unboxed? Unboxed units usually have had their warranty run out, that's why there's sold at a discount price. Samsung screens all have 3 year warranties, so you really should take it back.

Also, no camera? What about a cellphone?
