Screen problems with Dell Latitude e6410.

Hi Guys,

I'm having a problem with my laptop. Th one morning i tried to switch it on, and no luck, it wouldn't even charge. So i call dell, and they send out a techie to replace the mobo. So he replaces it, switches it on, and bam:

So we plug in another screen, and the problem is still there, on both the screens. so this rules out a screen problem.
So he says that he'll have to replace the moBo again. So the next day he comes out, replaces it again, and it still gives the same problem.
I start it up in safe mode, disable the display driver, and then it works.

So i though, no problem, ill just download the latest driver, install it, and won't have problems.
So i do this, but the same problem is still there.

So i decided to re-istall my windows, hopeing to fix the problem. So i re-install, install all the drivers, restart the pc, and BAM, its still there.....

The PC specs are:
Core i5 processor,
4 Gbs of RAM,
Dell Latitude e6410,
Windows 7 Professional

Does anyone have some advise on this pleasssse...

I have a Dell e6510. Had an issue a while ago where my machine overheated and burnt a black spot on the screen. I phone Dell Tech support and they replaced my screen the next day.

Phone them its worth it
 
well, ita not the screen, because that has been replaced, and it is not the mobo , because that has been replaced.

so what is it?

either
1) something silly like a bios upgrade that is needed, or a biosupgrade that has been implemented but that doesnt work nice with that specific i.d. of screen
2) he messed up your ram during the first replacement. laptops quite often do not have a large amount of dedicated graphics ram, so use shared memory ....would sort of also explain the safe mode ok (low res), but once drivers installed (and using shared memory) the little artifacts pitch up.
 
External Screen

Have you tried an external screen

Take a normal large LCD screen plug into your VGA port ( or equivalent)

See what happens.

IF the SAME problem presents on the external screen then you know that it is the video chip / graphics on your Mobo.

Try an windows generic VGA driver and see what happens ( NOT in safe mode )

Find out what the graphics chip in your mobo is -- try a driver from ANOTHER Dell laptop with the SAME graphics chip.

Do you have any internal cards -- WiFi // 3G // Bluetooth ?

There are antenna wires that go from the Laptop screen to the cards plugged into the Mobo.

They might be interfering ( Physically or Electronically )

DELL "technicians" I wonder sometimes ............

There may have been an update on the new MoBo, not a hundred percent sure.
Also, i was wondering if he didnt maybe break something in the process of trying to fix it, but wouldn't know where to start looking....

I have tried the external screen, and get the same problems...

When i use the generic drivers, it works, but then i can't use external screens etc, and the resolution can't be set to its max. only to 1280 x 800.

and the graphics is Intel® HD Graphics.. So I'm not sure what other drivers i could use...

EDIT: So i checked the BIOS version, it has the latest version.

What happens if you try to boot another operating system (Like Ubuntu or Mint) using a "live CD"

If you still have problems, then it's hardware

Without more specifics, I must say it looks like a graphics card problem - did your laptop come with the built-into-the-motherboard Intel GMA or the Nvidia Card (which is an add-on board) - given that the mobo was swapped, I'm guessing the Nvidia Card.

On some models the VGA chip ( GPU ) is built onto the Mobo -- so no add-on-board. ( YES nVIDIA as well )

The main thing you need to do is find out what graphics setup you have.

[OK I see you have the Intel -- which if I am not mistaken uses SHARED memory ( from your 4GB ) -- this could well be where your problem is.]


Quite often the chip manufacturer ( INTEL) will have their OWN drivers -- which might solve the problem.

Also quite often these big companies will have a pile of replacements -- other peoples cr@p that has been "re-furbished".

So unfortunately when you get a "replacement" it does not necessarily mean that it is a virgin NEW board / part.

You need to run one of these diagnostics programs -- did you not get the DELL one with your laptop ?

Haven't tried the live boot cd, as i dont have one on hand.
Its not the nvidia one, its the built in Intel card.

+1 on the refurb parts - if the tech came out is means that the machine still under full warranty - so call them again and make him come out until they fix the problem - even if they have to swap out every single component (that's what I like about the Dell Warranty - it all inclusive at the hardware level)

Im running the diagnostics, and if it doesn't find anything, then i guess the techie is gonna have a rough time over the next few days.... :twisted:
 
arggg... been on the line for almost 2 hours... install driver, uninstall driver, install driver, unisnstall driver.... My gosh...
Still no luck... Ran the diagnostics disk, and got an error code:
3900:0626 OTHER_THERMISTOR - Temperature Sensor out of range (0°C)

Any ideas?
 
Mine is Acer 4520G,but the same problem 5 months ago,and replaced a high voltage tube ,and then ok
