Some of you may recall, I needed an ADSL solution for a residential complex (48 units).
We signed a contract for 2 512 connections with Internet Solutions at the beginning of September.
And we began the nail biting approximate 3 week wait for telkom to install the lines.
3 weeks go by, then 4, and in the 5th week, Internet solutions give me a call to say that Telkom can't install the line as the exchange can't handle it, or there are no free ports, or some such crap, blah blah blah.

SWe live in a braand new neighbourhood that according to Telkom is on the correct exchange, but to get a definate answer out ofd these companines is impossible.

Our only solution now is to go wireless.
How does a wireless solution compare to an ADSL?
What are the differences I should be looking out for?

request to see a VANS license from them, read through these forum regarding a companies reputation dealing with the customers, etc. note: none of the wireless providers i know of cater for P2P
 
OK, so we have no ADSL connections in our neighbourhood,
so I contact sentech, and ask for 2 x mywireless connections.

I tell them I will buy the modems and go month-by-month, instead of signing a 2 year contract.
Except sentech now claims they're dropping the month-to-month option.
I can't believe it.
I asked what happens if I buy two modems now, and they drop the service next month, and they say 'tough'

I can't beleive how ****ing difficult it is to get broadband access in this country.
This is cape town for **** sake. Supposedly a world class city. My ass.

Its like beating my head against a brick wall.
 
Try iBurst .... you gonna have to shell R2800 for the modem & possibly ~R450 for external antenna if your signal is weak, but you can have month to month.

Get WBS or reseller (e.g. Tradepage) to come out ot tests signal strength before you buy tho.

Only hassle you'll have (to service 48 users) is you'll need multiple 9GB accounts which someone will have to switch as they run out.

Cloudgazer - what area you in? or the complex you want to setup?

I'm sure u can set a "special" account with wbs for such a lage number of users... Maybe?
 
Email ICASA informing them that you are being discriminited against by Telkom because some people have DSL in you area and you cannot get it. Telkom needs to expand their infrastructure or government needs to allow competition into the areas of telecoms. Easy as that.
