Seems a person was murdered on Camps Bay side of Table Mountain:
The body of a runner has been discovered on a Table Mountain hiking trail near Camps Bay. The 34 year old man appeared to have been murdered. The incident happened this morning at Kasteelpoort.

Not much info, but still - I hate hearing stories like this about a place I spend a fair amount of time at even tho I'm on the Newlands / KBosch side of the mountain when I'm up there. That said - the amount of reported incidents are still quite low so I'm still going to be heading up there. Will just attempt to exercise more awareness and arm myself with tokoloshe pendants or whatever else is a suitable deterrent to these scum.

+1. I think some undercover police must go and hike or jog there. When someone tries to rob them or harm them in any way whatsoever, shoot them dead. Do not arrest them, just kill them right on the spot.
 
After watching Carte Blanche this evening, its like that Spaniard who cycled down through Africa, only to get mugged for the first time during his second night in Cape Town

People need money for their drug habits duh!

Even if drugs were legal, they'd cost money, but they might be cheaper, but they'd still cost. And a unemployed druggie must get that money somewhere...
 
The trails in cpt have always been sketchy, u should be very aware and definitely not alone,the table mountain hike used to be very dodgy with people getting robbed.On signal hill when u park and walk to a spot u like for the view they break into your car.

They hide in the bushes,happened to a guy who was parked close to us,he said he was away for 10 min,and the security said it does happen,so yeah keep a pepper spray when u go on the trails or go jogging keep one with u.

Sad indictment on the society of this country.

Agree - stake out those trails and off these scumbags.

I'm sure they'll take it and respect the land just like has happened in Hout Bay. Can't even swim there anymore.
 
I think the cops and local politicians are already putting BIG SPIN on this story and covering up a murder.
I have no doubt he was attacked. The early reports also spoke of other stab wounds.
Stories like this KILL TOURISM, and its peak tourist season.
We cant have foreigners going back home reporting on murders in popular tourist areas now can we?

Na Guys and Gals,
Kasteelpoort is not for the average hiker. Hats off to those that can run it. I lived on that side of the mountain as a kid and we did it a lot, but the return journey is quite scary unless you return via a better route.

RIP.

But my personal opinion is we we should specials forces troops in training to monitor the activity on the range. They would not only learn friendlies, v enemies. would be a great exercise in non detection and observation. then when intervention is required, Hello, I be army to reduce you.
