Hi all, more noob questions here :\
My Galaxy tab 4 only has 8gig internal so obviously ran out of space quickly and needed to get SD card for more space. Got myself a 32gb SDcard, installed it and mounted it. Then proceeded to try and move my music from the internal to external storage via Myfiles... no go. Can't move folder.

Then tried connecting the device via usb to PC. I can see the SD card however I can't even create a folder on the card, let alone move stuff.

Now if I physically plug the SD card into my pc and can create folders and copy stuff over. What gives??

And yes I'm not rooted - however shouldn't I be able to copy files to SD card without this? What's the point of a SD card then. I don't want to take out the SD card every time I want to copy stuff to it

Android is doing this to protect you. They are slowly waking up to the logic behind iOS's restrictive storage policies.

OP can you check if you can use once of the build in (app that came with the tab/ not 3rd party) file explorer works for copying stuff to SD?
Doh...

I don't think there is away around this without breaking your warranty.
My bad. I misread as "and yes I am rooted".

Thanks for the responses - not really what I wanted to hear. Thought there would be some setting "Tap here to magically allow access to SD card" lol

Ok, so what is the point of a SD card for the average android user? If you don't have PC access with SD card reader you are stuffed. The mind boggles.

Photos and movies will still be stored there under the control of the OS, by yeah given that phones with SD slots are becoming less and less popular it's probably a better idea to fork out a little more for a model with more internal storage.

You got that response.
On my S5 3'rd party apps won't let me move things like you want to but "My files" does it without any hassles.

Ag sorry, missed that. Yeah as stated in my first post - tried the "My Files" thing. Select a folder then select move. Just gives errror "failed to move"

Make a new folder.
Move the files/sub folders to it.
I'm guessing you are trying to move straight to root?

Ok, using My Files went onto SD card selected Create Folder, typed in a name and then OK. Get message "creation failed" Must be some sort of setting I can't see, or android black magic.

Do you have anything stored on your memory card already?

Yes, I formatted it on Tab and it created a Android folder with sub folders. After that I plugged it into PC formatted again, copied music and vidz from PC and plugged it back in Tab. I can play the music/vidz, however also see that a Android folder was created again.

My bad miss understood when reading, thought he had root.
Op could try using towelroot depending on the firmware and model.
