SD PVR with Sata Hard Drive

thanks Rustler, two last questions: how many hours can you record now and is the SATA drive a 3.5" or 2.5" drive?

No prob.

Got about 114 hrs record time at the mo, think it was originally 80 hrs? It's connected to a 3.5" SATA drive. The SATA drive is in an external case that can be connected via USB or SATA and so I've made use of the SATA connection. Interaction with the HDD is also noticably quicker than before.

On another note, I used a free trial version of Macrium Reflect to make an image of the old drive (big partition) and restored it to the new one - this allowed me to keep my previously recorded programmes :)

brilliant! nothing lost in the transition - please post if you decide to upgrade to a larger drive - thanks for your feedback again!
 
I'm upgrading to a 3TB tomorrow. Bought a seagate go flex drive and will use Paragon Partition Manager Trial to see mirrorthe partition and then enlarge the partitions, apparently Paragon is the only partition manager than can extend a partition over 2.2TB. I thought of enlarging the partitions to 5x the original size and the rest will be used for recording. Should get about 800hr recording time.

wow! that'll be the biggest PVR in town ;-) Let us know how it goes and the SATA to IDE converter used?
 
I can barely find anything worth recording on 80hours. Don't know what you're going to record for 800 :O
 
Newbie here.

Somewhere I read above that you guys copied off the data on the drive and then put it back later. I have upgraded to having a HD as well as the PVR and the 9v connector is no longer producing 9v so the whole box needs to go to MC and be replaced.

On the PVR are about 5 short videos of me and my 15 mins of fame, and I would like to retain them, but if I give the PVR to MC, that will disappear into thin air.

Any ideas please.

Your best bet is to record it off the harddrive via the AV cables, you might need to resort for RF though if you cant get past the copy protection

PS: Was your fame when you were the 55th rescued during the 2008 oil spill?

if your SD PVR still works, copy movies over as stated above - if NOT, you will have to remove the HDD and connect to a PC and copy the contents to another drive, in order to copy back to new SD PVR

FYI - My Mod & HDD still doing the job! But these days I hardly ever watch DSTV any more! Torrents FTW... :D
 
Mine failed again. Taking it in this week. Perhaps should look into your mod.
 
Bump: ... My HDD started playing up ... after almost 4 years of running non stop (disabled the Hard Drive preservation). So I quickly cloned it to another drive, popped that in ... and still works a charm ;)
 
If anyone might be interested, I've got a SD PVR Dual View (the one with two tuners built in) still standing on the shelf, works like a charm, bit dusty but otherwise no issues.:)

I might be interested. How much do you want for it?
 
I heard that by the end of the year those SD decoders won't be able to work anymore due to some system change at DSTV. I think this is why they are giving anyone a R500 trade in on a new explora
