I have an elderly Celeron box with Gigabyte M/board, I'd like to bump the RAM up but our local merchant just laughs when I mention SDRAM. There are currently 2x128MB PC133 SDRAM installed, can someone advise where I can get 256MB or 512MB, either in Cape Town or Jo'burg? Can I use different RAM? If so what?

Can't use different ram afaik, ddr400 and ddr2 wont fit. Secondhand is your best bet. I can get new, but it's not worth it for the price you have to pay to import them.

Ja best bet would be to find a friend or someone that still has an old pc

Thanks guys, I will buy a couple of defunct P2/P3 boxes and whip the RAM out...

+1 -- secondhand is the way to go. Brand new is going to cost a fortune!

Yeah, if you going new then you could just as well buy a new system (almost).
