SEACOM is Down

Indeed... Cybersmart non restored services dead... BUT, I also could not connect to Afrihost, Axxess or WebAfrica... seems as if Cybersmart had to "re-verify" the connection as it was removed and port-resetting could not help. This they did in about 1 minute and now WebAfrica working again.

I wonder if this has anything to do with the "other ISP" exclusive T&Cs ?

Anyway... online again, so matters not now.

Yip .. Cybersmart also says SeaCom is down .. and by "says" I mean .. those of us on their "non-restored" service are entirely disconnected. I mean we can't even get to their site to check the support page - line just not not even authenticate.

I bet their call centre is going to receive a LOT of calls this morning with people thinking their DSL is down .. for Pete's sake .. why not just auto direct customers to your support page.

Thankfully .. Web Africa was dishing out trial accounts earlier this month !

Seems to be up and running again....

Cybersmart non restored services dead? - It is up and running?

EDIT: Cybersmart helpdesk recorded message says that restored OK, non-restored not...

My 1st thought was "SEACOM down, ohno, just WHAT did Neotel do this time...".... hehehehehe.

Final update and summary, from REN-News.

"Time Line Summary:

At approximately 22:55 an outage was seen on both the protection and the worker SEACOM circuits, this was immediately checked with SEACOM NOC, and they confirmed the fault.
Regular follow-ups were done with SEACOM NOC over the following hours and at approximately 1:30am we were informed that the break was terrestrial in nature, occurring 16 kilometers north of Cairo, on the segment between Cairo and Alexandria. This was on SMW4, Segment 3, Route 1.
At approximately 3:30am in an update call with SEACOM, we were informed that due to curfews currently in place in Egypt, the technician would only be able to get to site at 6am, and repair work would then begin.
At 8:12am the cable came live again and has since been stable.

Further information:

We have been able to ascertain that the failure on the primary terrestrial fiber referred to above, was compounded by a power failure on SMW4, Segment 3, Route 2, which is the backup route between Cairo and Alexandria. The power has since been restored so this segment of the cable is now running in a redundant form again."
