SEACOM cuts off ISPs in new peering policy

SEACOM has implemented a new peering policy which means many South African ISPs are no longer able to peer directly with the company.

Hi Cool Ideas,
What does this mean for fibre customers on the CISP network?
Increase in pricing? Degraded performance certain parts of the network? No significant effect?

It means that Seacom de-peered CISP but my understanding is that CISP did not really use Seacom for much of anything anyway so the effects should be minimal with the exception of anything that resides on the Seacom network having to take a round-about route to get there.

Yeap traffic used to be direct between our networks now IS is the middle man, traffic is so low it's not a major.

Seacom has rolled out fibre services along the N1, which connect Johannesburg, Bloemfontein, and Cape Town.

We use the fibreco route currently, peering doesn't mean you utilise the cable
