Hi All

I was hoping someone could help me with this issue i'm having, i recently added a 3TB harddrive to a Pc running Windows Server 2003 R2 the problem is windows doesn't recognize the entire 3TB and only picks up about 758GB. What can i do to make it see the entire 3TB?

Thanx,

what motherboard are you using , could be a sata controller issue which mite be solved with a bios update for the motherboard , have u used the disk management tool to see if theres other partitions available to you

It's strange though, you should be able to allocate at least 2TB without converting to GPT.

Got the same issue. afaik that 0.7 odd TB is the other side. i.e. 3tb less ~2.2tb limitation = 0.7 odd TB. afaik its something about the MS partition manager that causes the 0.7.

+1 It actually says this on the drive itself.
There is no reason why you'd need some software for it to work. Hell my 3tb is working just fine & I've never even heard of this management software.

ah nearly forgot....you'll need sp1 for that 2003 install to support gpt.

How much windows space do you actually get with a 3tb?

I tried the management software but Windows server 2003 doesn't not support it so im not able to install it. i checked computer management and its not unallocated space, Think it could be the sata controller i'll give updating the bios a try.

Hi There this link points to Microsoft support and addresses issues around GPT and booting off GPT devices as well as indicating that 2003 may not work.
If you can I would move to a newer version of the OS. 2003 is getting a little long in the tooth.

Regards

Tim
