This morning I wanted to go look for a song and the a drive took longer then normal to respond.

So I open my SMART info to check drive and it should OK. restarting the drive made it not get pickup by windows on a new pc. it installs the software drives shows up but cannot open it.

Removed the drive from the enclosures connecting to sata port windows wants to format it.

Now I know smart would have warn me if it was starting to go flaky. But nothing :wtf: I would like to get the data back but its not the end of the world data.Mostly steam game backups and music. I could format and see what that does ?

:mod please change Heko to help

Well after a hour its now showing this:

Copy any data off now if its accessible, while it still is.

IMHO - Forget SMART, it rarely warns on failing drives. Listening to a drive usually gives you more of a warning.
You can generally hear when a spinning disk is failing, as the noise will change.

busy copying off it now **** knows what happened.

SMART is notoriously dodgy. If the data is important then get in touch with SouthBit who are active on the forum, I'm sure they'll sort you out with a good price.

No data like that luckly and its busy copying now. But its still in raw format >< boggles my mind

well after copy everything over... I re plugged it again and its working 100% ...ran HDD test 100%.

Its going to be used to store crap now

Something to take note off. Smart shows my HDD reached 61c.

I have its a clue it was this hot summer of us. I stands on my desktop 100% of the time not close to anything.

Seagate recommends nothing above 60c. Now my internals HDD never got close to that. Don't think they are made for SA heat waves
With our newer model drives the maximum temperature is now at 60 degrees Celsius.
