Hey guys,
Dropped a drive, 500 gig and now it does not start up, just makes a noise, stops, makes a noise and stops.
How could this be fixed? Could I buy another drive 7200.11 or other and swap the part with the data?
Thanks

Try getting it fixed if its under warranty but I would not tell the supplier I dropped it. If you need the data take it for drive recovery. Physical damage is usually bad though and I would suggest you get a new drive and if you want to move around with the drive invest in a hard-drive enclosure.

If there is one thing I have learned it's that you have to treat external drives with kid gloves. I knocked mine over (no, not off the desk) on the desk and my life spiralled out of control after that :D

are'nt the 7200.11 part of the bad batch seagate made?
i lost 10 of the 4 i had...finally got them swapped for 7200.12's

return if its under warranty, but other than that, you drive seems screwed, try tilting it while its on, or throw in the bin.

If you need the data, you'll need professional data recovery.

If the drive was in an enclosure (and therefore has no visible signs of damage) and you don't need the data, then return the drive for swap out (because they can't tell you dropped it).

If it's just the drive and it has a ding it it, they obviously wouldn't swap it out.

Ya the .11 Drives were a bad batch, they had firmware issues, take it to Rectron for warranty.
