Seagate Barracuda 500GB 7200RPM problem

Hello experts.

I bought a 500GB seagate barracuda PATA type from overseas 3 months ago.
It was used in the external casing and suddenly while I was copying over my stuff from PC to that external HDD, it died.
BIOS picks it up after a long time, but Windows or even Seagate DiscWizard does not recognise it.

Can you advise if I can get it repaired locally with its 5 yr warranty or should I take it back to the shop in overseas?

Otherwise is there anything else I can try?
I tried everything I can think of.

Your warranty expires 25-05-2012, and they seem to be "ok" with SA as a rma point. I am 99% certain we will be able to sort this out.

Sorry desraid, the drive does not have a warranty in SA, you will have to send it direct to Seagate, and they will swop it. Start here,

go to "Return a drive as Guest User" and follow instructions.

If you do not want to do it yourself, i will do it for you, but i do charge a fee.

One reason I prefer WD's warranties. They are worldwide.

Recent service from Storgate has also been completely inadequate. Took them 5 weeks to swop out a 80GB drive because they were "out of stock".

WD on the other hand (drive control) swoped my 80GB for a 120GB on the spot (waited 30min's while they checked it with the manager) because they could not supply me with a 80GB drive within 7 days. Best of all, The drive was not even bought from them (gray import)
