Seagate Freeagent 1.5TB only read/write at 1mb/sec

So I recently bought someone an external Seagate Freeagent 1.5TB hard drive. The weird thing is it only copies and writes at 1mb/sec on his laptop on a USB 2 port, but when I connect it to my pc it copies at 30mb/sec?

I can't seem to figure this one out.. :confused:

what seems to be the problem is that the laptop or the hard drive doesn't pick up that it's connected to a USB 2.0 port, seems like it thinks it's a 1.1 port.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)

Update his drivers for laptop,like his chipset drivers,uninstall usb drivers under device manager,those are things I would try,also check in his bios,if unsure in bios load system defaults in bios and see if that works,also boot laptop with external and see if that works

, I already installed them a few months ago, but will do it again, how do I uninstall usb drivers? BIOS is on system defaults. Not sure why I should try to boot off the external there's nothing on it.

I just tried my flash drive also, it also only copy's and writes at 1mb/sec, so it's not the hard drive at fault. Must be drivers/laptop

and the worst thing is I google these problems and can't find any answers to them :(
 
I was going to suggest removing the usb ports from device manager and then checking for hardware changes, it normally sorts out these hassles for me.
