Hey ppl:)

I am looking at buying a Seagate Freeagent Desk 1TB External HDD. When reading the comments posted on tons of reviews and videos is seems that this drive commonly just stops working. Does anyone have the specific drive, and have you had any problems???

Thanx:)

AFAIK the Seagate freeagent drives are pretty dependable.
Ive had a 3.5" 500gb for ages, no prob.
I was going to buy a internal seagate HDD, and convert it into my own external, but I didnt do it for 2 reasons:

1. I will never again spend money on Seagate 3.5" internal drives after the problematic firmware issues
2. usually the warranty on the enclosures are shorter than that of the internal Hard drives. (that is not the case with the seagate freeagent)

Im not quite sure if the problematic firmware hard drives reached the free agent series? But im pretty sure it didnt, so you ought to be fine buying one. Just dont lose your invoice, should something go wrong!!!

I have this specific model, bought from Take2. Works like a charm. I've had it for less than a month though, but I think it should be perfect. Really doing a great job!

Howzit. I've had one since December or January I think. No probs so far and it gets used fairly regularly. What I discovered after I'd bought it and walked out the shop with it was that you're not able to open the case and stick another HDD inside. I went back into the shop and asked the guys there about it and they said the only way to open it is to break it open and that apparently would void the warranty on the HDD itself too... not sure about all that though. Apart from that a great external HDD as far as I'm concerned.
