"Unrecoverable read errors - 1 in 1014"
on there ads

What do they mean by that?
1 in every 1014 drive will have read errors?

Should probably be 1 in 10^14.

That means that for every 10^14 sectors read, 1 will be wrong.

guess my faulty 3 week old Seagate Green had 1000 errors and died

The first Seagate 2TB Green I got developed 1000's of bad sectors in the first week and ran very hot. It was swapped out and the replacement runs like a dream.
